Adult Education Spring 2024 Overview: Beginning the week of January 7th

Tuesdays at 10:00 am - Exodus, from Slavery to Mount Sinai with Rabbi Uri (in person):
Shemot/Exodus is the second book of the Torah. Let’s explore together verse by verse, story by story, the years of slavery of the Israelites in Egypt, their journey towards freedom, the giving of the Torah at Mount Sinai and the building of the Tabernacle. No previous knowledge needed.

Tuesdays at 11:15 am - Exploring Jewish Values: A Journey to Living with Purpose with Cantor, Rabbi Mark (in person): We continue our journey through traditional and modern texts striving to live our lives rooted in decency, kindness, and honesty, even when faced with moral challenges. Embark on a quest for wisdom and engage in thought-provoking and lively discussions that provide a compass for navigating the complexities of modern life. Explore traditional and contemporary interpretations of the Torah in an immersive study session, uncovering timeless wisdom that resonates with our lives today.

New Class* Wednesdays at 12:00 pm - Discovering the Mitzvot Lunch & Learn with Rabbi Uri (in person or Zoom): According to Rabbi Simlai there are 613 Mitzvot (commandments) in the Torah. Join us in studying class by class each one of the Mitzvot according to the Book of the Commandments of Maimonides. Bring your own lunch, we will provide dessert, water and coffee.

New Class* Thursdays at 9:00 am - Rabbis from the Talmud with Rabbi Uri (in person or Zoom): Every week we discover the stories of each one of the great sages of the Talmud. Come and discover the life, legacy and teaching of figures like Hilel, Rabbi Akiva, Rabban Yochanan ben Zakai, Rabban Gamliel and many more.  Each week is a lesson for our daily lives.

Thursdays at 8:00 pm - Intermediate Hebrew with Jessica Kaplan (on Zoom): Take your Hebrew journey to the next level with our Intermediary Hebrew class. Build upon your foundational language skills as we dive deeper into grammar, vocabulary, and conversational nuances. Through engaging lessons and interactive activities, you'll strengthen your reading, writing, and speaking abilities. Immerse yourself in the beauty of the Hebrew language, and gain the confidence to navigate more complex linguistic scenarios. Join us for an enriching experience that bridges the gap between beginner and advanced proficiency.

Fridays at 10:15 am - Starting January 19th - Parshat Hashavua with Cantor, Rabbi Mark (in person): Explore ancient wisdom that resonates with today's issues. Dive into the weekly Torah portion and discover its relevance to our modern lives. Engage in thought-provoking discussions and gain fresh insights. Don't miss this opportunity to connect with tradition and explore the issues of our time through a timeless lens.

Saturdays at 11:00 am - Parashat HaShavua with Rabbi Uri (in person): You are welcome to join us at 9:30am for our Shabbat morning prayers but if what you want is to study some Torah come at 11:00am every Saturday to dive into the weekly Torah portion as we analyze it from traditional and modern approaches.

Join us for a new program at members' homes. Each month, from February to May, participate in a Wednesday night gathering for some wine, desserts, and a special adult education class to prepare for the upcoming holiday season.

March 13th at 7:00 pm: Purim - Re-Reading the Characters of Esther's Story
April 10th at 7:00 pm: Passover - About Women and Freedom in the Story of the Exodus
